TikToker Camilla Alhassan sentenced to one year in prison over claims against president Mahama

Ghanaian TikTok personality Camilla Alhassan has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Accra Circuit Court after pleading guilty to charges of offensive conduct related to comments she made about President John Dramani Mahama.
The court convicted Alhassan over videos she shared online in which she alleged that President Mahama sacrificed 32 cows as part of ritual activities to secure victory in the 2024 general elections. The claims were made without evidence to support them.
Following the court’s decision, a video showing Alhassan being escorted from the court premises under heavy police protection circulated on social media.
The case has sparked discussions about responsible use of social media, the spread of unverified claims, and the legal consequences of statements made publicly.
