“This is a vision worth supporting…” — Osuodumgya Otutu Ababio V Accepts Governing Council Role for Akuapem Tech Summit 2026

The Nifahene of the Akuapem Traditional Council, Osuodumgya Otutu Ababio V, has formally accepted an appointment to the Governing Council of the Akuapem Tech Summit 2026, pledging strong traditional backing for the region’s emerging “Akuapem Silicon Ridge” agenda.

The endorsement came during a courtesy visit by the Akuapem Technology Secretariat to his palace in Adukrom, where officials presented the Governing Council invitation and the Akuapem Tech Summit Policy Framework as part of efforts to secure traditional leadership support ahead of the 2026 event.

The delegation was led by Acting Chairman Benjamin Ofori and included Acting Director of Operations, Mr. Ayeh Akuffo, as well as Amb. Nana Aku Sika Okani (II), Acting Director for Sponsorships and Partnerships.

The engagement formed part of wider stakeholder consultations aimed at strengthening institutional backing for the Akuapem Tech Summit 2026, a flagship initiative designed to position Akuapem as a leading innovation and technology ecosystem in Ghana and West Africa while preserving its cultural identity.

During the meeting, Mr. Ayeh Akuffo outlined the Secretariat’s long-term development vision focused on youth empowerment, innovation, and digital transformation across the Akuapem Ridge.

“Our vision is to transform Akuapem into a thriving technology and innovation hub by empowering young people with digital skills, entrepreneurship opportunities, and access to emerging technologies,” he said.

He further stressed that the initiative is designed as a sustained development platform rather than a single event.

“The Akuapem Technology Secretariat is not just organizing a summit; we are building a long-term development platform that will attract investment into education, agriculture, and innovation across the Akuapem Ridge,” he added.

Responding to the presentation, Osuodumgya Otutu Ababio V welcomed the initiative and expressed strong confidence in its direction, formally accepting his role on the Governing Council.

“This is a vision worth supporting…” he said, signalling his endorsement of the Akuapem Silicon Ridge agenda.

He further pledged his commitment to the success of the initiative and encouraged the Secretariat to remain focused on delivering long-term impact.

“I am ready to contribute my time and resources to support this vision and ensure its success,” the Nifahene added.

He also urged the organisers not to allow the initiative to end after its initial phase.

“Do not allow this initiative to end with the five-year plan. Build an institution that will continue to serve Akuapem for generations,” he advised.

The Nifahene assured the delegation of his readiness to support the summit through guidance, influence, and available resources, describing the initiative as a transformative opportunity for the Akuapem area.

The meeting was attended by members of the Nifahene’s council and witnessed by key dignitaries, including the Member of Parliament for Okere, Hon. Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth, alongside delegates from Pennsylvania in the United States, reflecting growing interest in the initiative both locally and abroad.

Inspired by the visionary leadership of the Okuapehene, His Majesty Oseadeɛyo Nana Kwasi Akuffo Ababio III, the Akuapem Tech Summit is designed as a platform for innovation, digital inclusion, youth empowerment, and sustainable regional development.

The initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide across Akuapem by promoting access to technology, entrepreneurship opportunities, digital literacy, and multi-stakeholder collaboration across government, academia, industry, investors, and the diaspora.

The Akuapem Tech Summit 2026 will be officially launched on October 1, 2026, at the Peduase Valley Resort in the Eastern Region, with expected participation of about 1,000 attendees and a wider global virtual audience.

The Akuapem Tech Summit is owned and governed by the Akuapem Technology Secretariat under the authority of the Akuapem Traditional Council, with the Secretariat serving as the implementing body responsible for coordination, partnerships, and execution of all related programmes.

Organisers say the initiative is poised to position Akuapem as a competitive innovation hub in Ghana and West Africa, driving youth development, investment attraction, and long-term economic transformation.
