“If You Kill The Tree You Kill An Entire 10 Generations” – La Kwantanang -Madina MCE Warns on World Environment Day

The Municipal Chief Executive for La Kwantanang-Madina, Hon. Ibrahim Fuseini Faila, has urged Ghanaians to see tree-cutting as more than an environmental issue, calling it an attack on future generations.

“If you kill the tree you kill an entire 10 generations,” Hon. Fuseini said on the sidelines of the 2026 World Environment Day celebration at West Africa Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region.

He explained that trees provide more than shade. They clean the air, prevent erosion, regulate rainfall, and support livelihoods. Destroying them, he said, robs children, grandchildren and generations yet unborn of the benefits.

The MCE’s comments came as students, teachers, and local officials joined the global campaign to mark World Environment Day. Activities at West Africa SHS included tree-planting exercises, climate talks, and student presentations on plastic pollution.

Hon. Fuseini commended the school for leading the charge and challenged residents of La Kwantanang- Madina to protect existing trees and plant more. He said municipal authorities will step up enforcement against illegal tree felling while partnering with schools and community groups on afforestation.

“World Environment Day must not end today and be forgotten tomorrow,” he added. “Every tree you save today is a life you save tomorrow.”

This year’s global theme focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience — issues Hon. Fuseini said are already being felt in parts of Accra through flooding and extreme heat.

Call to action
The MCE urged students to become “climate ambassadors” in their homes and communities. “Plant a tree for your name, plant a tree for your future,” he told them.

World Environment Day is observed globally on June 5 each year to raise awareness and action for
environmental protection.
