African passport holders to enjoy Free E-visa access to Ghana- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that all African passport holders travelling to Ghana for business or tourism will no longer pay visa fees under the country’s newly launched electronic visa regime.
Speaking at the official launch of Ghana’s first E-Visa service, President Mahama said the initiative reflects Ghana’s commitment to promoting free movement across the African continent and strengthening regional integration.
According to him, Ghana will not wait indefinitely for continent-wide consensus on Africa’s free movement protocol before taking decisive action.
“The Ghana believes that where continental processes move too slowly, decisive national leadership must fill that gap,” President Mahama stated.
He explained that effective immediately, all African passport holders seeking to travel to Ghana for business or tourism must apply for visas exclusively through the newly introduced online E-Visa platform, but without paying any visa processing fees.
“For emphasis, all African passport holders will not be required to pay visa fees when they apply online,” he stressed.
President Mahama further announced that the previous visa-on-arrival policy for African travellers, introduced during his earlier administration, has been discontinued and replaced with the new electronic visa system, which he described as more secure and efficient.
However, he clarified that citizens of African countries that already have visa waiver agreements with Ghana will continue to enjoy visa-free entry without the need to apply online.
He added that travellers from Caribbean countries and other nations with existing visa waiver agreements with Ghana will also continue to enter the country freely without applying for visas.
The President said the new E-Visa platform is aimed at improving border security, simplifying travel procedures, boosting tourism, and facilitating business opportunities across Africa.
