President Mahama inaugurates new Divisional Police Headquarters at Krobo Odumase, boosts security infrastructure

President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a new Divisional Police Headquarters at Krobo Dumasi in the Eastern Region, describing the project as a strategic investment in strengthening Ghana’s internal security architecture and bringing policing closer to the people.
Addressing chiefs, security officials, and residents at the commissioning ceremony, President Mahama said the facility represents more than physical infrastructure, but a renewed national commitment to peace and safety.
“Today’s event is not merely the commissioning of a building, it is a commissioning of renewed hope, strengthened institutional capacity and a bold step forward in our collective quest to build a secure and resilient nation,” he stated.
The President emphasised that security remains the foundation of national development, warning that without peace, economic and social progress would be impossible.
“Without peace and stability there can be no meaningful progress, no thriving businesses, no quality education and no sustainable livelihoods,” he said.
Police Modernisation and Logistics Upgrade
President Mahama outlined ongoing reforms aimed at modernising the Ghana Police Service, particularly through improved logistics and operational capacity.
“As soon as we came into office last year, we placed an order for 40 armoured vehicles for the Ghana Police Service and they’ve played a very big role in countering armed robbery,” he disclosed.
He further announced additional support to the service: “Another 40 armoured cars are coming. When you send our officers to protect you and fight violent people, you have to provide them with the instruments and tools to be able to do so.”
He stressed that the days of under-equipped policing must end, noting that previous practices had exposed officers to unnecessary danger.
“In the past we used to give them light pickups to go on patrol against armed robbers and we lost many men and women in the line of duty. We don’t want that to happen again,” he said.
Intelligence-Led Policing
The President reaffirmed government’s vision of building a modern, intelligence-driven police service.
“Our vision is clear. It is to build a modern, professional and people-centred police force that is equipped not only to respond to crime but to prevent it through intelligence, innovation and strong community partnerships,” he stated.
He praised the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Management Board for reforms in that direction.
“This police management team has been quiet, they don’t make too much noise but they are very, very effective,” he noted.
