Xenophobic Attacks Must Be Condemned; AU Urged to Act — Godwin Ayaba Mahama
Story: Maurice Otoo

The Corporate Affairs Officer of Team Oil Refinery ( TOR) has called for urgent continental action following reports of xenophobic attacks in South Africa, describing the incidents as “condemnable” and a threat to African unity.
Speaking on Kessben Maakye show, Godwin Ayaba Mahama, who is affiliated with the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) communication team said the African Union (AU) must take decisive steps to address the situation and protect the rights of Africans living across the continent.
He noted that growing concerns among citizens are raising questions about the AU’s effectiveness in dealing with such matters, stressing that violent actions against fellow Africans are unacceptable.
According to him, countries that are uncomfortable with the presence of other African nationals should pursue lawful and diplomatic measures rather than resorting to violence.
Mahama further emphasized the need to safeguard the lives of Ghanaians residing in South Africa, urging swift intervention if sanctions or disciplinary measures are deemed necessary.
Touching on domestic political matters, he criticized the NPP, accusing the party of hypocrisy in its handling of issues such as the Baba-Amando and Abronye misconduct. He argued that the party should reflect on how it managed similar challenges during its time in government.
He also pointed out that the repeal of the criminal libel law does not justify defamatory conduct, adding that some party members may privately disagree with actions of Abronye and Baba Amando but publicly support them for political visibility.
Mahama concluded by reiterating his call for accountability both at the national and continental levels, insisting that leadership must act decisively to maintain peace and justice.
