
Accra Technical University (ATU) has launched its 5- year strategic plan (2026 – 2030) to outline the University’s vision for the next five years and forms part of the drive to enhance academic excellence, innovation for institutional growth and development.
The 5 – year strategic plan also serves as a road map designed to strengthen industry – relevant and competence – based education to produce graduates with employable skills.
The strategic document is driven on seven key pillars including competency – based training and future – ready teaching and learning, digital transformation and modernized infrastructure, quality assurance, institutional excellence and compliance.
Others are industry – driven applied research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, staff development, motivation and welfare, strategic partnership and increased visibility, green technologies and sustainability.
Speaking at the launch, the Chairman of the Governing Council of ATU Prof. Ernest Abotsi challenged the University Authorities to adhere to the implementation of the strategic plan, adding that the document will succeed with the collective effort by the management and staff of the University.
He said the plan outlines the path the University must embarked upon and however called for pragmatic measures to bench mark the document as against the out comes and further stated that the document must received the needed impact.
The Vice – Chancellor of ATU, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi said the University will continue to strengthen research, promote innovation, entrepreneurship as well as support staff and students with the requisite training to enable them be abreast with emerging skills in the fields of academia and industry.
He said the University is producing graduates who can solve problems, create jobs and contribute to industrial growth development and indicated that the job market is changing rapidly hence graduates must adapt and exhibit the spirit of innovation to meet the job market.
For his part, the Director of Tertiary, Ministry of Education, Dr. Emmanuel Newman urged the University Authorities to train students to be innovative and roll out initiatives to give them competitive edge over their counterparts in Africa and globally.
