GJA Awards Organizers got it wrong letting Samini perform ‘Linda’ in front of Otumfuo & President Mahama – Fante Quoo

Media personality Fante Quoo, has criticized the organizers of the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards for what he described as a serious lapse in judgment, allowing celebrated musician Samini to perform his hit song “Linda” during the ceremony held at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Hall at Manhyia Palace.
The event, which was attended by notable dignitaries including His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and President John Dramani Mahama, featured a musical performance from Samini.
However, according to Fante Quoo, the choice of “Linda” was “highly inappropriate” for such a prestigious and culturally sensitive occasion.
Speaking on his show, Fante Quoo noted that while Samini is a respected musician, the lyrical content of “Linda” known for its sexually suggestive and playful themes, made it unsuitable for a setting that demanded utmost decorum and reverence.
“You don’t perform a song like ‘Linda’ in front of Otumfuo and the President. The lyrics are sexually provocative. The organizers should have vetted the performance list. It was a big miss on their part,” Fante Quoo remarked.
He added that the GJA Awards, being the highest recognition for excellence in journalism, should reflect professionalism, cultural respect, and sensitivity in every aspect of its programming, including entertainment choices.
The 29th GJA Awards aimed to honor outstanding journalists and media houses for their contributions to Ghana’s democracy and development.
