We are coming after you – Gold Board declares war on illegal gold trade, task force launches July 8

Sammy Gyamfi, the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, has warned individuals and syndicates engaged in illicit gold dealing and smuggling that the organization will take strong action against offenders in order to safeguard Ghana’s gold revenue stream.

He said, “We’re coming after you!” at a briefing on the board’s licensing transition framework at a press conference held at the GoldBod Head Office on Monday, June 30, 2025.

Mr. Gyamfi emphasized how crucial it is to legalize gold transactions in order to stop smuggling, which denies the nation the foreign exchange profits it needs for economic growth. He declared that in order to address this threat, GoldBod will form a dedicated security unit.

“But for those who are hell-bent on trading illegally without a license, we are serving notice that we are coming after you,” he said.

“This event is going to be the inauguration of the Gold Board Taskforce. On that day, the president will outdoor this new security taskforce who have the same powers as police officers and who have been given a special and specific mandate to help the state combat and defeat the phenomenon of gold smuggling, the canker of illegal gold trading, and  disruptions that deprive the state of the needed revenue, the needed profits, the needed forex for our economy and the development of our country as a whole.”

The taskforce would be intelligence-driven, using operational data that is already being collected around the country, Mr. Gyamfi said. He sent a clear warning to unlicensed traders:
