Energy Minister John Jinapor pledges to solve power outages in Kumasi

Residents in areas of Kumasi have called for a load-shedding schedule in response to the recent unexpected power outages.

Technical issues at the Anwomaso Bulk Supply point are the cause of the continuous power outages, according to the Electricity Company of Ghana.

However, locals have voiced their annoyance, saying that the situation is interfering with their business operations and that it has to be resolved very once.

During the visit of Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene also voiced concerns over power fluctuations in the area.

In order to review important advancements in the energy industry and evaluate ongoing initiatives at power plants, the Minister traveled to Kumasi.

According to John Jinapor, the purpose of his visit was to reassure locals of the government’s resolve to address the power situation.

The Minister inspected the New Power Enclave, GRIDCo’s recently commissioned 145MVA transformer, and other vital infrastructure at Anwomaso in the Ashanti Region’s Oforikrom Municipality.

“We inherited a power system that was shedding about 750 megawatts of load as of December, but we are determined to stabilize the power supply, particularly in the Ashanti Region. We are injecting significant supply points in terms of power generation in Kumasi. Soon, Kumasi will become a major point of power supply,” John Jinapor disclosed.
