‘CPP is open for her’ – Nana Frimpomaa courts Samia Nkrumah’s return to party

Flag bearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah, has said that the party is ready to welcome Samia Yaba Nkrumah, the daughter of the founder of the party and first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Her call comes on the back of Samia’s decision to contest the Jomoro constituency seat as an independent candidate in December 2024 elections.

The action, according to members of both the CPP and the main opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC), is an orchestration by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NDC has alleged that the NPP is sponsoring Samia to scoop some votes of the incumbent MP, Dorcas Afo Toffey, for the NPP to have its way.

Meanwhile, Samia Nkrumah, has through an interview on TV3, denied the claim that she is being sponsored by the NPP to run as independent. She says the NPP itself has a candidate in the race and cannot sponsor her to contest.

But, following her election as the party’s flag bearer, Nana Frimpomaa says although Samia stopped active participation in the CPP since her defeat in the 2016 elections, the party is ready to welcome her back to her roots.

Speaking with Alfred Ocansey on Ghana Tonight on TV3 Wednesday, September 05, 2024, she said “I’m not worried. She has done that before. The last election she did that. Samia Nkrumah left active participation in the CPP when she lost in 2016. She is still dear to our heart. Any day she is ready to come back, CPP is open for her, we wish her the best.”

Meanwhile, the CPP flag bearer is confident the party is the only hope to gain economic independence for the country just as it did with its independence.

“The situation in the party as we see it today, is not about the problems we face as a party but the problem that the nation faces today as a nation. We CPP brought the Ghana that we have today, we fought for the independence so we can still come and fight for the economic independence that has eluded us. It’s about the economy and that’s exactly what we are going to focus on,” she stated.
