 NEIP graduates second batch of Kayayei, a move towards entrepreneurial job

As part of government’s effort to empower head porters (kayayei) to be self-independent in the job market, the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program(NEIP) has graduated the second batch of kayayei after undergoing training in various hands on skills.

The training program includes baking, soaps, beads, detergents making, pedicure, manicure, decor, make up artistry.

Participants in these regard were taken through additional courses such as financial management and business development to build capacities to enhance their entrepreneurial ventures with each receiving starter packs and

other incentives for operating their business.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Accra, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NEIP, Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah said his outfit is graduating 600 kayayei for successfully completing the training program.

He added that government have put in place the requisite structures to continue to support kayayei alongside the skills acquired for a brighter future, adding that it is a dawn of new job possibilities in their working endeavour.

The Chief Executive Officer indicated that the training program will be extended to other district across the country as preparations are far advance to commission the Techiman and Kumasi hostels as part of government quests to continue the program to benefit Kayayei across the country.

According to him, the training program have become a great achievement on the operations of NEIP as government will ensure that young women be well resource and equipped to enable them become entrepreneurs in their chosen fields of endeavours to support and contribute their quota towards the country’ growth and development.

“The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia initiative is creating employment for the youth and therefore commended stakeholders for their immense commitment for making the programme a reality and therefore urged the youth to take advantage of the project as 5000 of such female porters have been targeted nationwide to provide them with various hands on skills”.

“Graduates will receive a stipend 1,000 cedis to start their business as the remaining 500 cedis be released in the course of their respective trading activities”, he explained.

Certificates of participation where awarded to each beneficiary for the successful completion of the training program.
