NUGS Calls On Government To Resource SLTF

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Thursday, 15th July, 2021 paid a working visit to Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah ,CEO of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF ) to familiarize them with the scheme as new leadership of NUGS.

The Executives of the Students body used the opportunity to raise concerns about the delay in payment of funds to beneficiaries. They among other things suggested that the scheme begins to issue award letters to beneficiaries and also funds should be paid directly to the institutions of beneficiaries which the CEO called for a more researched analysis and database.

The CEO responding to concerns on the interest rate, made it clear that the interest rate is capped at 12% per anum due to the treasury rate of 182 days . He also indicated that delays happen largely due to delays of funds by donor agencies.

On the increase in monies paid to beneficiaries, he added that it’s only Parliament or the government that can implement it

The CEO however stressed on the schemes transition to the ” No Guarantor ” policy as indicated by the government.

“We are however calling on the government to resource the SLTF with the adequate funds and needed resources to deliver on its mandate to Ghanaian students” the NUGS executives added.
