There was a foul against Nations FC before the penalty was awarded against Kotoko but the referee did well – Referee Kala

Retired Referee Owusu Mensah Kalla asserts Kotoko should have been awarded a freekick before the penalty was awarded against them vs Nations FC last Sunday at the Dr Kwame Kyei sports complex.

Kalla speaking on Kessben TV’s Midfield Acton Sports show reiterated that there were two infringements which were fouls against Nations FC in the build-up to the penalty incident but the referee might have not seen it due to the fact that he was far off from the action.

According to the Referee Kalla one of the infringements should have resulted in a freekick for Kotoko which would have avoided the penalty decision.

“The position of the Referee was bad. He should have been closer to the action. If He was closer, He would have seen that there was a foul against Nations FC before the penalty incident.

It was a foul first before the penalty. There were two infringements, at least he should have awarded a freekick to Kotoko in that build up” He said.

Regardless of that, Retired Referee Owusu Mensah reckons, Referee Abdulai Latif handled the game very well.

The matchday 6 game of the 2023-24 Ghana Premier League ended 2-2 at the Dr Kwame Kyei sports complex.
