Former Ghana sports minister, Hon Afriyie Ankrah has cautioned that all monetary agreements with the Black Stars players must be settled before the team moves to Qatar for the 2022 Worldcup.

Hon Afryie Ankrah who was the sports minister in 2014 when the Black Stars players rebelled against the country in during the 2014 Worldcup says, if they had settled the monetary agreement with the players before moving to Brazil for the Worldcup, the 2014 debacle would have been avoided.

Speaking on Kessben TV with Kwame Appiah Kubi, the former minister advised that the current sports ministry should ensure to settle all money issues with the players before they move to Qatar for the Worldcup.

“The Brazil debacle I have said it many times but I have moved on. For me, the most important thing is that I put my all into the tournament. Unfortunately for me when we were going the finance ministry said there is no money so I had to raise funds and due to that I stepped on toes.

All I can say is that everything must be settled with the players now before they move to Qatar. During my time, there were outstanding bonuses which ought to have been paid, that were not paid and we went.

They should be disciplined and focused and also believe in themselves. In the 2014 team, I had believed in them but unfortunately, they themselves did not believe in themselves.” He said.
