Ofori-Atta delivers mid-year budget review today

Minister of Finance Kenneth Nana Yaw Kuntunkununku Ofori-Atta will today, Thursday, July 29, be in Parliament to deliver the mid-year review of the 2021 budget delivered earlier this year.

It will be a review of government’s economic policy and financial statement delivered by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu on Friday, March 12.

Then, Mr Ofori-Atta was seeking medical attention in the USA as a result of complications of Covid-19 he had suffered earlier.

The 2021 budget proposed the introduction of a Covid-19 Health Levy of a one percentage point increase in the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and a one percentage point increase in the VAT Flat Rate to support expenditure related to Covid-19.

But the review will not see any new taxes introduced.

“I can tell you that there will no introduction of taxes in the mid-year budget review,” a Deputy Finance Minister, John Ampontuah Kumah, told Media General‘s Eric Mawuena Egbeta on Monday, July 26 on the sidelines of an economic dialogue addressed by the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament.

He represented Mr Ofori-Atta at the forum.

The mid-year budget reading will start at midday.
