My motion to drag Sammy Gyamfi to privileges committee is not politics of equalization – Hon Habib Iddrisu

The Member of Parliament for Tolon constituency, Hon Habib Iddrisu, has said that his request to call the Communication officer for National Democratic Congress to face privileges committee is not politics of equalization.

The MP has filed a motion on the floor of Parliament requesting the Speaker to refer Sammy Gyamfi to the Committee for making comments he view as contemptuous to Parliament concerning the approval of some Ministers for the Akufo-Addo administration.

Concerns have been heightened that, the move by the Tolon Member of Parliament deems as politics of equalization since his decision should have been taken earlier not at the same time Hon Kennedy Agyapong is been dragged to the privileges committee.

Speaking to Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Kessben Fm, Hon Habib Iddrisu, justified that, guiltiness or crime has no time expiration, hence, the timing he is requesting Parliament to drag the Communication officer to the privileges committee is satisfactory.

Added that, the standing order in Parliament does not also determine a time frame to hold someone for a contemptuous act before the privileges committee.

He maintained that the comments by Mr. Gyamfi were an attack on the Speaker of Parliament and Parliament as an institution which makes the reputation of the house been doubted, a situation he described as worrying and contradict order 38 of Parliament’s standing orders.

Thus, according to the MP, the Communication officer for the largest opposition party should appear before the committee and explain to them the reason for such comment.
