DVLA introduces new smart Driver’s license

The Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority(DVLA) in their release on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, said that all old driver’s licences before September 2017 be renewed.

According to the DVLA, old cards for driver’s licence are going to be replaced by smart driver’s licence cards. They therefore encourage all holders of the old licence to return to the closest DVLA offices for specific replacement and verification of the cards.

This exercise is expected to be operative from now till March 31, 2024.

The authorities said applicants who into fulfilling the requirements by the DVLA will have to undertake and pass a compulsory eye test at any DVLA-recognized eye test centre and present the driver’s licence before a replacement can be successful.

They also added that renewal for driver’s licence can be renewed a month ahead of its expiry,” It said all holders of the smart card driver’s licence are to also check the renewal dates behind their licences and have them renewed when they are due” The statement read.
