Anas exposé: New Judges set to replace corrupt colleagues

Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood, is set to swear into office five new circuit judges and nine magistrates, to replace the corrupt judges who have been dismissed from the bench. Their dismissal follows the judicial corruption exposé by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI private investigative firm. The swearing-in of the new judges and magistrates, expected to take place on Thursday, January 7, forms part of a planned process by the Judicial Council to replace all the corrupt judges exposed by Anas.
A total of 20 circuit court judges and magistrates were dismissed after they were given a hearing by committees set up by the judicial council, to investigate allegations that they had been caught on camera taking bribes to influence some cases brought before them. The painstaking investigation which lasted for two years was the biggest scandal in the history of Ghana’s Judicial Service. The Chief Justice has said the service is committed to bringing the matter to a full closure, as the other accused judges and about 100 judicial service staff, are yet to know their fate.
