Changes to be made for Ghana-Mali game on Thursday
Citi Sports can confirm that three players from the first Black Stars game on Sunday will be dropped when they face Mali on Thursday.
Derek Boateng, Christian Atsu and Jerry Akaminko will make way for Rabiu Mohammed, Albert Adomah and Isaac Vorsah respectively.
These changes give an indication of a change in Kwesi Appiah’s tactical approach in order to correct the errors committed in the team’s 2-2 draw against DR Congo and ensure a victory for the tea, on Thursday.
Juventus midfielder, Kwadwo Asamoah, will replace Atsu in an advanced role behind Asamoah Gyan while Rabiu Mohammed will start in place of Derek Boateng in central midfield.
Atsu’s below par performance in Sunday’s game has forced the coach to move Asamoah into a more favourable central position to provide more thrust to the Stars attack.
Isaac Vorsah returns to the starting lineup after recovering from an injury that kept him out of the team’s last pre-AFCON warm up game against Tunisia in Abu Dhabi and the game on Sunday against DR Congo.
Harrison Afful will start the game at left back with AshGold goal keeper, Fatawu Dauda, in goal for his second consecutive game of the tournament.
Predicted line-up for Ghana vs Mali:
Keeper: Dauda;
Defenders: Painstil, Vorsah, Boye, Afful;
Midfielders: Agyemang-Badu, Rabiu, Adomah, K. Asamoah, Wakaso;
Striker: Gyan
