Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Esikuma Odoben Brakwa, P. C. Appiah Ofori has suggested that the party’s MPs in Parliament should boycott the vetting of President Mahama’s Ministerial nominees scheduled for Thursday.
The party has said it will announce its decision on the boycott of the vetting on Tuesday.
Although NPP has appointed members to serve on the Public Appointments Committee, the party has also said it will pick and choose which government business to participate in on the floor of the house.
The anti-corruption crusader who retired from Parliament at the last election told Citi News the party’s participation in vetting the President’s nominees will undermine the party’s principles in challenging the 2012 election results in court.
He questioned why the NPP MPs “should we go and consider the business of a person the party does not recognize as the President? It will amount to defeat in its own self. So I am saying that they have to go…it implies that the NPP has accepted defeat and therefore there was no need for the court case to continue.”
Mr. Appiah Ofori added that if the NPP Members in Parliament walked out and refused to take part in the swearing in, then if he brings an exercise of this nature, should they sit in? If they sit in, then they have defeated themselves and the case in court must discontinue.”
So far the NPP has boycotted the inauguration of President Mahama and has announced it would not field candidates for the upcoming by-elections in Buem and Akatsi South.
The Party says it has doubts about elections conducted by the Electoral Commission.
