FGJ appeals for Supreme Court's neutrality

The Forum for Governance and Justice (FGJ) has challenged the Supreme Court to maintain its neutrality when sitting begins on the NPP case seeking to challenge 2012 election results.

According to the FGJ, the judges could be under some pressure because of the perception that the judiciary was sympathetic to the NPP.

Convener of the Forum, Dr. Clement Apaak, in an interview with Citi News called on the judges to show total commitment to justice and remain impartial in this case.

“Ghanaians are going to be monitoring this case with a lot of interest because the fact is that, most Ghanaians believe that the Supreme Court and the judiciary is much more friendly to the NPP than the NDC.”

“I am not saying it, it is about perception; this is what most people believe”, he added.

Mr Apaak also criticized the Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Otchere Darko for comments they considered prejudicial and called on both the NDC and NPP to accept the ruling of the Supreme Court when the case was concluded.

“I found the comments of Gabby a bit worrisome, he seems to contradict himself almost at every moment. First of all he indicates that the outcome of the potential court case should be something that the President-elect and the defeated candidate must accept but at the same time he has also made comments at other platforms indicating that the EC colluded with the President’s party to steal the votes.”
