Sami Bentil and Wiz Kudowor to show works at Science Museum

An exhibition of paintings by Sami Bentil and Wiz Kudowor will open on Thursday, November 25 at the Museum of Science and Technology, Barnes Road in Accra.

Dubbed: “PropaGhanaArt”, the exhibition will offer about 60 works from the artists who have been close pals since they met at the College of Art, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi in the early 1970s.

According to the artists, the upcoming show is the latest leg of a journey started in KNUST more than four decades ago aimed at converging like-minded creatives to project, uphold and augment our cultural values through the vehicle of art.

Both artists hold solid reputations for the distinctive nature of their works which have been exhibited and widely collected around the world. Their works often embody strong Ghanaian and African elements.

“Maintaining our pride in the basic values that define us as a people is key to holding our own in an integrated arrangement. A people without a foundation in their own traditions are lost,” Bentil and Kudowor say.

Apart from Ghana, Kudowor has exhibited in countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Russia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, UK, USA, Canada, Italy, Netherlands and Germany in about 20 solo exhibitions and countless group shows.

He describes himself as a character constantly redefining his perspectives on life in general and personal experiences in particular, and his interaction with various elements in his environment.

He says his works presented in the PropaGhanaArt exhibition are attempts to capture the deep cravings and urges from the recesses of his being – the subconscious.

Bentil is widely collected in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, West Africa, the Caribbean and South America.

He has been described as a master of the technique of ‘Pointillism,’ where numerous dots of many sizes and colours are blended together to produce charming and inspiring work.

The last time Bentil and Kudowor held a joint exhibition was in March 2020 at the Ghana Club in Accra. Fritz Baffour, Communications Consultant and former Member of Parliament who opened that exhibition described them as  “pathfinders whose creativity and artistic integrity are imbued  in their paintings.”

The PropaGhanaArt exhibition will open daily at 10 a.m. It ends on December 14.
