The Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Emad Magdy Hanna Kamel, has paid a farewell call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, on Wednesday, 18th August, 2021.
H.E. Emad Magdy Hanna Kamel presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, 23rd January, 2019. He was the Chief of Cabinet of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cairo, Egypt, from 2014 to 2018. He also served as Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Egypt in Rome, Italy, and in various capacities at the Egyptian Embassy in Malawi, Greece and Romania.
During the farewell call, the Hon. Minister recalled the long-standing, warm and cordial bilateral relations between Ghana and Egypt and the good personal relations that existed between Presidents Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt and Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana and their shared ideals and visions culminating in the pioneering role played by both countries in the quest for Africa’s unity and development.
She noted that the very successful visit to Egypt by the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2019 as well as Ghana’s support for Egypt during the period of the chairmanship of the African Union (AU) by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, were testaments of the enduring bonds of friendship between Ghana and Egypt.
Hon Aryokor Botchwey mentioned that the bilateral relations between Ghana and Egypt remain a very formidable partnership in terms of development cooperation and cooperation at the multilateral level. Note, in this regard, that the two countries should encourage their respective private sector actors to seize the enormous opportunities offered by the African Continental Free Trade Agreement to boost trade and investment, especially in the manufacturing and agro-processing sectors.
She observed that Ghana is the fourth-largest market in Africa for Egyptian exports after Kenya, Nigeria and Ethiopia. Expressed Ghana’s keenness to strengthen trade relations with Egypt, as a model for building cooperation among African countries.
Foreign Minister expressed appreciation to the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt for the immense assistance provided over the years towards Ghana’s capacity building and human resource development in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, diplomacy, security, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) among others.
She further expressed appreciation to the Government of Egypt for supporting Ghana’s successful bid for membership to the non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, for the term 2022-2023 and stress that Ghana will use the tenure on the Council to promote the shared interest of the African continent
The Minister lauded Egypt’s pivotal role as a pillar of stability, security and peace in the Maghreb and the African continent. Added that, though his tour of duty in Ghana was brief, his contribution in deepening Ghana-Egypt relations has been immense and remarkable.
Thus, she commended him for the instrumental role played in facilitating the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between EgyptAir and the Government of Ghana, promoting a strategic partnership between the two sides and establishing an integrated Ghana National airline with a joint Egyptian-Ghana investment. In this regard, conveyed on behalf of the Government and People of Ghana, appreciation for the various assistance provided by Egypt in support of Ghana’s nascent airline.
Hon Aryokor Botchwey again commended him for the influential role he played in initiating discussions for the development of Ghana railway services as well as regional linkage projects with Ghana’s geographical neighbours.
