44 Students Abused in 10 Years – Obuasi SHTS Sex Scandal Exposes Massive Cover-Up, Former GNAT Chief Fires!

Former GNAT General Secretary, David Acheampong, has broken his silence on the Obuasi SHTS sexual misconduct scandal, describing it as a shame to the teaching profession.

Speaking on the damning revelations via zoom on Kessben TV’s Punch show in Accra, Mr. Acheampong said it is highly condemnable that 44 cases of alleged sexual abuse of young students by teachers have been recorded within the last decade.

According to him, the teaching profession is mandated to train students to be responsible and disciplined, and any form of sexual malpractice between teachers and students is a betrayal of that mandate.

He alleged that there is a deliberate cover-up of bad teacher behaviour in some areas, a situation he says emboldens perpetrators to continue such acts.

Recounting the genesis of the current scandal, Mr. Acheampong said the Obuasi case began on August 4, 2026, when students allegedly assaulted the headmaster for allegedly facilitating the burial of a baby on the school land.

He stated that following the incident, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education set up a Committee of Enquiry to investigate the matter.

That committee, he claims, uncovered some underlying factors including cases of alleged sexual harassment and rape.

In a shocking claim, the former GNAT scribe alleged that the findings of the committee were sent to the Director General of Education since September, but the Minister of Education was kept in the dark.

“Instead, he interdicted the Regional Director and the chairman of the committee till Manasseh’s exposé,” Mr. Acheampong alleged.

He has therefore dared the Director General to make public the committee’s report and juxtapose it with Manasseh’s exposé to unravel the truth.

“I am so disappointed in the authority for shirking their responsibility and embarrassing the Minister,” he added.

Manasseh’s exposé on Obuasi SHTS has sparked nationwide outrage, with many calling for a full-scale investigation and prosecution of all persons found culpable
