A former flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Arthur Kennedy has said that the comments made by the NPP General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (Sir John) indicating that the election petition was won by the petitioners should be ignored since the judgement by Supreme Court is final.
“Sir John is Sir John but as far as I am concerned the Supreme Court is final and if they say we lost the election then we lost it.”Dr Arthur Kennedy said.
Dr. Arthur Kennedy’s comments comes in the wake of Sir John’s statement that indicated that petitioners won the election petition case in the Supreme Court contrary to the verdict read by the President of the panel of Justices, William Atuguba.
Dr. Arthur Kennedy futher stated on Eye Witness News with Richard Dela Sky that the attitude being exhibited by the party towards the verdict has “made the Electoral Commission, the Asantehene and the Supreme Court enemies of the NPP although they initially supported the party.”
Dr. Arthur Kennedy in that regard entreated the NPP to accept the fact that it lost the election and move forward to plan for 2016.
“We need to look forward instead of looking backwards, we need to think of the factors that caused our defeat and plan ahead.”
Meanwhile, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has condemned the comments made by Sir John.
According to him, the comments by the NPP General Secretary exposes the lack of checks and balances in the NPP.
Expressing his shock at Sir John’s behaviour, he remarked that Sir John had forgotten that there was a possibility that he could be sentenced by the court since he was serving a six month bond of good behaviour.
“Sir John has attacked the constitution and subjected the party to suffering,” he added.
