Armed Forces to deploy 5000 soldiers for elections

The Ghana Armed Forces has indicated it is set to deploy about five thousand personnel to enhance security during the elections.

The soldiers will be deployed in groups close to all polling stations across the country especially at flashpoints.

Speaking to Citi News, the Director of Communications of the Armed Forces Col. M’Bawine Atintande said his outfit will support the efforts of the Ghana Police Service to maintain law and order on Election Day.

“What we are going to do is to deploy in a certain manner throughout the districts that will help us provide that backup to the police in the discharge of their duties.”

“We are deploying close to 5000. These troops have had their training”.

Col. Atintande added: “The soldiers will not be deployed to polling stations but instead deployed in groups close to the polling stations in certain areas where it is easier for us to respond speedily”.
