NDC’s Daniel Kwasi Ashiamah has launched a scathing attack on the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the opposition of making allegations without providing credible evidence to substantiate its claims.
In a heated argument on Kessben Maakye show in Accra, Daniel Kwasi Ashiamah, a former Member of Parliament for Buem and a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), criticised the NPP over its demand for accountability from Foreign Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa, particularly regarding the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.
In his remarks, Ashiamah questioned the basis of the opposition’s allegations, insisting that it takes more than intellectual ability to determine fraud and that accusations must be supported by facts.
He challenged the NPP to provide concrete evidence to support its claims before accusing government officials of wrongdoing.
Ashiamah questioned why the NPP was demanding accountability from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, over the airlifting of Ghanaians from South Africa.
He argued that the opposition should first establish the facts surrounding the evacuation before making allegations of fraud or financial impropriety.
The former Buem MP also challenged the NPP to produce empirical evidence to substantiate its claims, insisting that public accusations should not be based on speculation.
According to him, the opposition must be prepared to present verifiable facts rather than merely making allegations at press conferences.
Ashiamah further accused the NPP of what he described as laziness in reading and writing, arguing that the party must thoroughly examine issues before commenting on them.
He questioned how the opposition could accuse a minister of wrongdoing without having detailed information about the expenditure involved in the evacuation exercise.
He also challenged NPP figure Asafo-Agyei to present his facts and compare them with the information released by Ablakwa.
Ashiamah maintained that opposition politicians must demonstrate a clear understanding of national issues and provide evidence to support their criticisms.
The NDC stalwart also took aim at individuals he described as political opportunists, accusing them of seeking attention through public statements without adequately researching the issues they discuss.
He argued that Ghana needs an opposition that is prepared to scrutinise government policies using facts and evidence rather than making allegations for political advantage.
Ashiamah added that the NDC government was working to improve the country and urged the opposition to adopt what he described as a more constructive approach to political engagement.
He called on the NPP to abandon what he characterised as a lazy opposition strategy and focus on evidence-based criticism in the national interest.
The controversy highlights the growing political tension between the NDC government and the NPP over accountability, public expenditure and the handling of national affairs
