IPAC meets today over election committee row

The Electoral Commission will today [Friday] hold an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) Meeting at its headquarters.
The meeting will principally discuss matters arising out of the composition of the National Election steering committee put together for the November polls.

The Electoral Commission has been under intense pressure from opposition groups to dissolve the newly inaugurated 18-member Election Steering Committee after three members were accused of being card-bearing members of the governing NDC.The EC however insists it will not dissolve the committee on the basis that a few are allegedly biased politically.
The meeting is expected to reach a consensus on the matter ahead of the November general elections.
Pro-opposition group, Let My Vote Count Alliance and the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), as well as Mustapha Hamid, the Spokesperson for the Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), have accused some members of the committee of being NDC loyalists and will hence be biased.
They claimed that they have reasons to believe that Dr. Karl Marx Arhin of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), who has been withdrawn, Joseph Whittal of CHRAJ and Francis Azumah of the National Peace Council are affiliated to the NDC and should be removed from the committee.
