Adwinsa Publications, GhLA Promote Literary Tourism with AMA Ghana at Pa Gya! Festival’s 10th Anniversary

Adwinsa Publications Ghana Limited and the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) have highlighted the role of literature in promoting domestic tourism through Tour on Pages with AMA Ghana, an engaging session held as part of the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Pa Gya! Literary Festival.

The initiative brought together students, tourism advocates and literature enthusiasts to explore how books can serve as gateways to discovering Ghana’s rich history, cultural traditions, natural attractions and heritage destinations.

Organised by Adwinsa Publications Ghana Limited and the Ghana Library Authority in partnership with the festival, the session used reading and interactive discussions to demonstrate how literature can inspire young people and the wider public to explore the country’s tourism offerings.

Held at 1:30 p.m. at the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, W. E. B. Du Bois Memorial Centre, Cantonments, Accra, the event attracted participants from basic schools, senior high schools and the general public.

The discussion featured Dr. Nii Ayi Solomon, a tourism consultant, poet and playwright; Nana Akua Asante, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kids in Tourism Ghana; and Ursula Abena Brago, who represented the Executive Director of the Ghana Library Authority, Mr. Ziblim Alhassan.

With AMA Ghana serving as the focal publication, participants explored the relationship between reading and tourism, examining how books can introduce readers to Ghana’s historical landmarks, cultural identity, natural landscapes and heritage sites.

The session underscored the importance of making reading more meaningful by connecting literary engagement with real-life experiences. It also highlighted the potential of literature to nurture national pride, deepen cultural awareness and encourage young people to appreciate and explore Ghana’s diverse heritage.

By integrating tourism into the reading experience, Tour on Pages with AMA Ghana demonstrated that books can serve purposes beyond formal education. They can inspire travel, support heritage education and contribute to the promotion of domestic tourism, particularly among the younger generation.

The initiative formed part of activities marking the tenth anniversary of the Pa Gya! Literary Festival, one of Ghana’s prominent international literary gatherings, which continues to provide a platform for celebrating books, creativity and cultural expression.

Through this collaboration, Adwinsa Publications Ghana Limited and the Ghana Library Authority reaffirmed the value of partnerships between the literary and tourism sectors in encouraging reading, promoting Ghana’s cultural heritage and inspiring a new generation of readers to discover the country through its stories.
