Sahara Group Deepens Investment in Ghana with Arrival of MT Asharami Ghana

Sahara Group has reinforced its commitment to Ghana’s energy future with the arrival of MT Asharami Ghana, a 40,000-cubic-metre LPG carrier that delivered 5,000 metric tonnes of LPG to the country on its maiden voyage.
The vessel forms part of Sahara Group’s integrated LPG infrastructure strategy and supports ongoing efforts to improve LPG supply reliability, expand access to cleaner cooking fuel and strengthen energy security across Ghana and the wider West African region.
Welcoming the vessel, Hon. Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, described the investment as an important contribution to the country’s clean energy agenda.
“The arrival of MT Asharami Ghana represents a significant step forward in our quest to expand access to cleaner energy solutions for Ghanaians.”
He emphasized the importance of partnerships in meeting Ghana’s energy objectives.
“Government cannot achieve this vision alone. We commend Sahara Group for standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Ghana over the years in supporting our aspirations for energy security, economic growth and sustainable development.”
According to Wale Ajibade, Executive Director, Sahara Group, the vessel is designed to help address the growing demand for LPG while supporting Ghana’s ambitions to increase LPG adoption to 50 per cent of households by 2030.
“Carrying 5,000 metric tonnes of LPG, MT Asharami Ghana embarks on the first of many voyages that will strengthen energy security, expand access to cleaner fuel alternatives and support Ghana’s growing energy aspirations.”
Ajibade said Sahara’s investments are intended to create lasting impact across the energy value chain.
“At Sahara, we see MT Asharami Ghana as a symbol of confidence in Ghana’s future.”
For Yaa Serwaa Alifo, Managing Director, Asharami Ghana, the vessel represents the fulfilment of a long-held aspiration.
“What we are celebrating here is the culmination of a vision and a bold statement of our commitment to Ghana’s energy future. Asharami Ghana will help ensure that homes, businesses and families across Ghana have reliable access to cleaner cooking fuel.”
