Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) and 3TREES Ghana have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to roll out a nationwide paint discount scheme that includes plans to establish a dedicated sales outlet in every constituency ahead of Ghana’s 70th independence anniversary.
The agreement forms part of the *Brighten Ghana Initiative*, a national project designed to support the beautification and maintenance of homes, businesses, schools and community buildings as the country prepares to mark 70 years of independence on March 6, 2027.
Under the initiative, Ghanaians will enjoy discounts of between *35% and 55% on eligible exterior all-weather paints* from 3TREES, in line with approved product specifications.
Sales under the scheme are scheduled to run from *1st October 2026 to 30th March 2027*, covering the anniversary period and giving individuals, landlords, businesses, educational institutions and community groups ample time to undertake painting and renovation works at a significantly reduced cost.
Constituency-Level Rollout
A key pillar of the initiative is its decentralised retail plan. UMB and 3TREES Ghana intend to establish a sales outlet in every parliamentary constituency across the country.
The planned constituency outlets are expected to bring the discounted products closer to communities, reduce travel costs for buyers, and create opportunities for local trade, youth engagement and employment.
As part of the proposed roadmap, Members of Parliament are expected to support local mobilisation and facilitate the establishment of outlets within their constituencies. Local availability of products will however depend on the pace of establishment and opening of each outlet.
UMB as Official Banking Partner
UMB is participating in the initiative alongside Strawberry Star and 3TREES Ghana. Under the MoU, UMB will serve as the *Official Banking Partner and Settlement Bank* for the Brighten Ghana Initiative.
The bank is currently developing a dedicated digital payment platform that will facilitate seamless and transparent transactions for purchases of participating paint products nationwide.
Speaking on the partnership, UMB’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Philip Oti-Mensah, said the bank’s involvement reflects its broader commitment to national development beyond core banking services.
“Our participation in the Brighten Ghana Initiative is about supporting communities to look their best as we celebrate Ghana at 70, while also creating real economic activity at the constituency level,” he noted.
Linking Anniversary to Renewal
Organisers say the initiative deliberately links preparations for Ghana’s 70th anniversary with a renewed national focus on maintenance, environmental cleanliness and community pride.
By offering substantial discounts and expanding access through constituency outlets, the project aims to encourage a nationwide facelift of residential, commercial and public infrastructure.
Customers are advised that the final applicable discount will depend on the eligible product selected and its approved specifications, while access to a nearby sales outlet will depend on the rollout progress in each constituency.
Further details on product eligibility, outlet locations and the digital payment platform are expected to be announced ahead of the 1st October launch.
