Malik Jabir backs Tinkler, criticises coaches for pitch dispute

Ghanaian football legend Malik Jabir has thrown his support behind Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler following the South African coach’s comments about the poor state of pitches in Ghana.
Jabir described Tinkler’s concerns as legitimate, insisting that the condition of some pitches remains a major challenge to the development and quality of football in the country.
The legendary coach also criticised fellow Ghanaian coaches Maxwell Konadu and Karim Zito for wading into the matter, arguing that it is unprofessional for coaches to interfere in the affairs of their colleagues.
“It’s unprofessional to poke your nose into the affairs of your fellow coaches,” Jabir reportedly said, while maintaining that Tinkler’s assessment of Ghana’s pitches was accurate.
His comments add another layer to the ongoing debate over playing surfaces in Ghana, with concerns about pitch quality continuing to attract attention from coaches, players and football stakeholders.
The controversy has renewed calls for improved football infrastructure, with many arguing that better playing conditions are essential for the growth and competitiveness of the domestic game.
