Outgoing Chairperson of the NPP USA Branch and aspiring National Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party, Obaa Yaa Frimpong, says she is hopeful of sailing through vetting as she embarks on her campaign to canvass for support for the top portfolio .
Speaking to the media after going through vetting at the party headquarters in Accra on Monday, Obaa Yaa Frimpong said the process was successful but she remains an aspirant until officially cleared by the committee.
“I have gone through the process in terms of the vetting, so I’m just waiting for the verdict of the committee, because that’s the standard procedure. So I’m not yet cleared. So I’m still an aspirant until they clear me, and then I’ll be a full candidate to continue,” she stated.
The US-based stalwart of the party, who is contesting for the National Vice Chairperson position ahead of the October 3 National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, said she is hopeful of a positive outcome.
When asked what message she is taking to delegates as she awaits clearance, Obaa Yaa Frimpong said her message is about faith, trust and unity.
“I believe that the delegates should have faith in the party and should have also trust in the party that once we put our house in order, we begin to trust each other again. We begin to respect each other again. We begin to do the hard work that won us victory in 2016 again,” she said.
According to her, if the NPP comes together as a unified body and goes back to its hardworking spirit, victory in 2028 is assured.
“We begin to come together as a unified body. Victory will be assured come 2028, and this is what we are promising them that we are going to take the mantle of leadership come 2028. So they should have faith in some of us, myself especially, going for the national vice chair position,” she emphasized.
Obaa Yaa Frimpong said what she is bringing to the table as Vice Chairperson will augment the party’s base and give hope to members who feel neglected and unheard after the 2024 defeat.
“What I’m bringing to the table will augment our base, will give hope to the hopeless, will hear the unheard, and see the unseen, and make sure that what made them feel dejected, what made them feel that they don’t belong, that their worth or their value and contribution is not respected, we are going to bring that back, so they can begin to hope that 2028 should be the way to go for all of us,” she explained.
The outgoing NPP USA Branch chairperson, who is credited with strengthening the diaspora branch and mobilizing massive resources and support for the party over the years, said she has done so much in building the fortunes of the party.
“We’ve done so much in terms of building the fortunes of this party, augment the base, and I believe that given the chance or given the nod as I come before our revered delegates, we’ll be able to do things together that will bring the success that we need,” she noted.
She ended with a message of hope to party faithful.
“So make sure we rest assured that hope is coming to all of you,” she assured.
Obaa Yaa Frimpong is one of the prominent female aspirants in the upcoming national executives elections. Her transition from leading the NPP’s powerful USA Branch to contesting for a national vice chair position is seen as a strategic move to bring diaspora experience and grassroots mobilization skills to the national level.
Her campaign has focused on unity, inclusion, and rebuilding trust between the party leadership and the grassroots, which she says is critical for the NPP’s comeback in 2028.
The NPP will on October 3, 2026 converge at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to elect new national officers to lead the party’s reorganization for the next four years.
With vetting now done for her, Obaa Yaa Frimpong says she is waiting patiently for the green light from the vetting committee to fully hit the road as a candidate, with a message of hope and restoration for the elephant family.
