National Treasurer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Chartered Accountant, Dr Issahaku Tahiru Moomin, has declared that he has the competence and innovation needed to fix the weakening financial base of the party and lead it to victory in 2028.
Speaking to journalists shortly after facing the party’s National Vetting Committee at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Monday, Dr Moomin described the vetting as a normal party process handled by familiar faces within the party’s leadership.
“These are people that we know ourselves in the circles of the party. Some of them are the Council of Elders, patrons, and former ministers, and some are colleagues that we have worked together. So for the vetting, I think it’s just a normal process, you know, with the whole chain,” he said.
Dr Moomin, who is a Chartered Accountant and finance expert, is among the contenders for the crucial National Treasurer position ahead of the October 3 National Delegates Conference in Kumasi. He said his professional background makes him the most qualified to manage the party’s finances.
He said his vision is primarily to help the party win power and build a resilient financial administration.
“Thank you very much. So my vision for occupying this position primarily is to help win power for the party, and then also to build a resilient financial administration for the party, a financial system capable of winning and earning the trust of members of the party, and capable of mobilizing enough money to support the chain of activities and events that we have to carry towards implementing the strategic goal of the party, gaining power, come 2028,” he stated.
According to him, the NPP’s financial structure has developed a gap that needs an expert to close, and he is the right man for the job.
“All these things I’m talking about, I am embodied with what it takes to do them, and we are only telling delegates and everybody that the gap that is created in terms of the financial activities of the party, I have what it takes to close that gap, to mobilize money for the party, then manage the resources very well, come up with innovative ways beyond the orthodox ways of generating money,” he explained.
He said his approach as a Chartered Accountant will not rely solely on traditional fundraising methods but will introduce innovative ways to mobilize resources for the party’s operations from polling station to national level.
“We are coming up with innovative ways to mobilize money for the party, and then also one of our objectives is delegate centered. You know, we will implement programs and activities that will inure to the benefit of party executives and the grassroots from the polling station level, constituency, regional and even across board and at the national level,” he noted.
Dr Moomin, who is a Chartered Accountant by profession, said the party is at a crossroads and its financial challenges must be addressed urgently if it wants to recapture power in 2028.
“So generally, these are some of the things that I think we have to tell them because it’s key. You know, where we are now, we are in a crossroads. Looking at the financial base of our party, it is becoming weaker and weaker, and it is important for us to address it. And the only person that can address the challenge that the party is facing regarding financial mobilization is me,” he declared.
He therefore appealed to delegates to give him the opportunity to serve and restore financial discipline and strength to the party.
“So I call on the delegates to give me that opportunity to serve them and serve them well,” he concluded.
Dr Issahaku Tahiru Moomin is a Chartered Accountant, finance expert and long-standing member of the NPP who has served the party in various capacities. His campaign message focuses on trust, innovation, professional financial management and delegate welfare.
The NPP will on October 3, 2026 converge at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to elect new national executives who will lead the party’s reorganization and strategy for the 2028 general elections.
The National Treasurer position is seen as one of the most strategic in the party’s current rebuilding phase, as the party seeks to mobilize massive resources to re-energize its base, run effective campaigns, and win back power from the NDC.
With vetting now completed, the Chartered Accountant says he is heading back to the field to continue engaging delegates with his message of financial revival and victory.
