Queen Mother Warns Students Against Drug Abuse, Teenage Pregnancy In Asikuma Odoben Brakwa

The Queen Mother of Breman Traditional Area in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District of the Central Region, Nanahemaa Yaa Boamah II, has urged students in the district to stay away from drugs and irresponsible behavior that jeopardize their future.

She made the call during an engagement with students of Agona Odoben Senior High School.

“Stay Away From Red, Tramadol, Shisha And Marijuana”
Speaking to the media, Nanahemaa Yaa Boamah II expressed concern over the growing number of students falling victim to drug abuse due to lack of proper guidance and education on the dangers of these substances.

She specifically mentioned drugs such as red, marijuana, shisha, tramadol and others, and urged students to avoid them entirely.

According to her, it is time parents “sit up and train their children very well” because “charity begins at home.” She added that traditional leaders and other stakeholders must also play their roles to help pull young people out of the “danger zone.”

Teenage Pregnancy Also A Major Concern
The Queen Mother also raised alarm over the rising cases of teenage pregnancy in the district.

She said she has taken it upon herself to educate students on the negative effects of teenage pregnancy and the need to abstain in order to secure their education and future.

Warning To Teachers
Nanahemaa Yaa Boamah II further cautioned teachers against engaging in relationships with students.

She stated that while teachers are expected to impact knowledge and guide students, any teacher found dating or having an affair with a student will be interdicted or prosecuted.
“We have seen what happened at Bole SHS,” she noted, stressing that such conduct will not be tolerated in the district.

Headmaster Appeals For Infrastructure Support
On his part, the Headmaster of Odoben Senior High School, Mr. Isaac Kobina Asiedu, said the school is performing well academically but is being hampered by infrastructure deficits.

He appealed to government and other stakeholders to come to the aid of the school to improve teaching and learning.

The engagement forms part of efforts by traditional authorities and school management to address social vices and improve education outcomes in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District.
