25 police officers promoted over major drug operations, intercepting 866 parcels of suspected cocaine in Tema
Twenty police officers who played key roles in last week’s interception of 866 parcels of suspected cocaine at the Tema Harbour, as well as the arrest of suspects in separate criminal cases, have been promoted by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
The Ghana Police Service announced the promotions on Monday, even before formal confirmation that the intercepted substance was indeed cocaine.
The officers were recognised for their roles in the operation that led to the seizure of the suspected narcotics at the Tema Harbour and the arrest of three suspects, including a Dutch national.
Other officers were rewarded for their involvement in the arrest of six suspects linked to the alleged theft of GH¢300,000 from a victim along the Portor-Kawempe stretch of the Kintampo-Buipe highway on July 19, 2026.
Another group of personnel was promoted for their role in the arrest of four suspects allegedly connected to a robbery syndicate operating in Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area of the Western Region.
The operations were conducted across the Bono East, Tema and Western Central Police Regions.
Among those promoted are Chief Inspectors Bede Nwinbomeh and Joe Tetteh; General Sergeants Elijah Ndaga Yinimi and Kaifan Sulemanna; General Corporals Owusu Ansah Evans and Tansang Jonathan; and General Lance Corporals Osei Christopher Bonny, Kyei Francis, Ofori Francis, Anim Dominic and Asante Isaac.
General Constables Adam Bakari Alhassan and Bakai Mark were also promoted.
The detective officers who received promotions include Detective Chief Inspector Frank Dzah; Detective Inspectors Edem Ametowoga, Abroso and Vincent Dankwah; and Detective Sergeants Salifu Yakubu and Samuel Mordzifa.
Six other personnel were also promoted to their next ranks in recognition of their contributions to the operations.
Chief Inspectors Nwinbomeh and Tetteh were additionally granted automatic entry into the Police Academy.
The Ghana Police Service said the promotions were intended to recognise the officers’ professionalism, dedication and courage in the fight against crime.
