Ato Forson announces €323m package for Northern Ghana water, sanitation project

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced a €323 million financing package for the Northern Ghana Water and Sanitation Project to tackle persistent water shortages in Tamale, Yendi and Damongo.
The package comprises €98 million in grants and a €225 million highly concessional financing facility from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
Dr. Forson announced the funding after a meeting with EIB Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle, describing their discussions as productive.
“I have just concluded a productive meeting with European Investment Bank Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle on the financing package for the Northern Ghana Water and Sanitation Project,” he said.
The European Commission will provide €68 million in grant funding, while Invest International, a Dutch government initiative, will contribute an additional €30 million.
The remaining €225 million will come from the EIB through a highly concessional financing facility.
According to the Finance Minister, the project is expected to ease recurring water shortages and improve sanitation services in the three communities, helping to address key water and sanitation challenges in Northern Ghana.
