NPP cancels constituency executive elections in 3 Ashanti constituencies, Bantama, Afigya Sekyere East, and Adansi Asokwa

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has invalidated the Constituency Executive Elections conducted over the weekend in three constituencies within the Ashanti Region, citing serious breaches of party guidelines and electoral regulations.
The decision was reached by the party’s National Steering Committee during its meeting on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, following a nationwide assessment of the ongoing 2026 Constituency Executive Elections.
According to the committee, the elections held in the Bantama, Afigya Sekyere East, and Adansi Asokwa constituencies failed to comply with party directives, the established rules governing the electoral process, and, in certain instances, existing court orders.
As a result, the party declared the elections in the three constituencies null and void with immediate effect.
Ashanti Regional Leadership to Appear Before Steering Committee
The National Steering Committee has directed members of the Ashanti Regional Steering Committee to appear before it on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to explain the circumstances that led to the conduct of the disputed elections.
Although the NPP has yet to announce fresh election dates for the affected constituencies, it indicated that additional directives will be issued after consultations with the regional leadership.
The 2026 Constituency Executive Elections form part of the party’s internal reorganization efforts as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
