Ghana Police Service Poised For The Two-Day National Clean-Up Exercise

The Ghana Police Service has announced full readiness to support the Two-Day National Flood Aftermath Clean-Up Exercise scheduled for today Friday, July 10 and tomorrow Saturday, July 11, 2026.

In a statement, the Service said it will deploy personnel across various communities nationwide to ensure public safety, protect workers and equipment, and enforce compliance with government directives during the exercise.

“Join our teams in various communities across the country; let us keep Ghana safe and clean,” the Police Service urged citizens.

Security Deployment Nationwide

According to the Police, officers will be stationed at key locations including markets, lorry parks, flood-prone areas, drains, waterways, waste transfer stations, and disposal facilities to provide security coverage throughout the 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. exercise period each day.

The deployment forms part of broader security arrangements announced by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, following the President’s directive for the national clean-up in response to the devastating floods of June 29.

The Police said the presence of officers is aimed at maintaining law and order, preventing any attempts to harass traders or workers, and ensuring the smooth evacuation of waste by Environmental Service Providers and MMDAs.

Call For Public Cooperation

The Ghana Police Service has called on the public to cooperate fully with officers and other stakeholders on the ground.

It noted that the exercise is not only about clearing debris but also about building a culture of sanitation and community responsibility to prevent future flooding.

“This is a national call to duty. Your safety is our priority as we work together to restore cleaner, healthier and safer communities,” the statement added.

The Service further encouraged residents to report any acts of misconduct or attempts by unscrupulous persons to take advantage of the exercise to intimidate business owners.

Two-Day Exercise Details

The clean-up exercise will run from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on both days.

– Friday, July 10: Government institutions, private institutions, Security Services, MMDAs, and Waste Management Companies.
– Saturday, July 11: Communities, residents and Security Services, with support from MMDAs and Waste Management Companies.

Markets, shops and commercial establishments within affected areas have been directed to remain closed during the exercise hours to allow for full participation.

The Police assured that personnel will also be deployed to provide traffic management support around waste management facilities to ensure efficient haulage operations.

Working With Other Stakeholders

The Ghana Police Service said it is working closely with the National Security architecture, MMDAs, Environmental Health Officers, traditional authorities, and community groups to ensure the exercise achieves its public health and environmental objectives.

The Service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while supporting government’s efforts to build more resilient communities in the wake of the floods.
