Accra’s sanitation and flooding crisis is a serious governmental and engineering problem – Kwasi Mensah

A governance and infrastructure expert, Kwasi Mensah, has described Accra’s persistent sanitation and flooding challenges as a major engineering and governance problem that requires urgent and coordinated action.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Mr Mensah said the recurring floods and poor sanitation conditions in parts of the capital reflect long-standing weaknesses in urban planning, drainage infrastructure and public administration.
According to him, addressing the situation will require more than routine desilting exercises, stressing that authorities must invest in modern drainage systems, enforce planning regulations and strengthen waste management to achieve lasting results.
Mr Mensah urged government agencies, metropolitan assemblies and other stakeholders to work together to develop sustainable solutions to reduce flooding and improve sanitation across the city.
