Economic gains are encouraging but more work lies ahead- President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has said that although Ghana’s economy has recorded significant improvement over the past year and a half, government remains committed to addressing the challenges that continue to affect many citizens.

Speaking at the National Day of Christian Prayer and Thanksgiving Service in Accra on Wednesday, President Mahama said the country’s economic recovery had been driven by disciplined economic management, prudent fiscal reforms, responsible leadership, the sacrifices of Ghanaians and the grace of Almighty God.

“Over the last year and a half, God has been good to us. Our economic recovery is touted around the world as truly amazing,” he stated.

The President said the progress achieved should be accompanied by gratitude to God for His guidance and protection throughout the country’s recovery process.

He, however, acknowledged that many Ghanaian households were still experiencing economic difficulties despite the positive indicators.

President Mahama noted that unemployment among the youth remained a major concern, while businesses continued to require more affordable access to credit to expand and create jobs.

“Our work is therefore not finished,” he said, stressing that government would continue implementing policies aimed at consolidating the economic gains and ensuring that every Ghanaian benefited from the country’s recovery.

He called on citizens to remain united, disciplined and committed to the nation’s development, saying Ghana’s recent progress demonstrated what could be achieved through collective effort.

“Together, by God’s grace, we have shown that when a nation remains united in purpose and disciplined in its actions, even the greatest challenges can be overcome,” President Mahama said.

The National Day of Christian Prayer and Thanksgiving Service brought together government officials, Christian leaders and worshippers to offer prayers of thanksgiving for Ghana’s progress and seek divine guidance for the nation’s continued peace, unity and development.
