Klottey Korle NPP Vetting Drama: Faisal Ibrahim’s Chairmanship Bid Hangs in the Balance After Online Option Scrapped

Tension is brewing within the Klottey Korle constituency of the New Patriotic Party after the Vetting Committee abruptly cancelled the online vetting option for aspirants abroad, leaving the bid of Lawyer Faisal Ibrahim Cisse for Constituency Chairman in limbo.
The development has triggered questions, frustration, and a late-night gathering of supporters at the vetting premises on Friday, June 27, 2026.
“Online Vetting is No Longer Available”
According to polling station executives present, the Vetting Committee had earlier agreed to allow aspirants outside the country to be vetted virtually. That arrangement, they said, was meant to ensure fairness for candidates who could not be in Accra on the scheduled date.
But on Thursday, the Committee told a team of concerned executives and members that the option had been withdrawn following a directive from the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Koduah.
When asked by a Polling Station Executive why the change was made, the Vetting Committee Chairman was brief: “It was the General Secretary…” he responded, without giving further details.
Faisal Ibrahim: “I’ve Been on Standby”
The new directive puts Lawyer Faisal Ibrahim Cisse, one of the leading aspirants for the Chairmanship position, in a difficult spot. He is currently abroad but has communicated his intention to return to Ghana next week.
In a phone call with one of his supporters at the venue, Cisse described his situation as “somewhat confusing.”
“I have been on standby for a while, and yet, no vetting…,” he said, raising concerns about whether he will be allowed to participate at all.
His supporters argue that he had made plans based on the earlier understanding that online vetting would be possible. With that option now off the table, they fear he could be disqualified by default.
Supporters Push Back at Vetting Premises
The announcement did not sit well with a section of the constituency base. Last night, some supporters of Lawyer Faisal Ibrahim gathered around the vetting premises to register their displeasure.
They questioned the timing and fairness of the decision, arguing that it undermines internal democracy and could disenfranchise a candidate who remains committed to contesting.
“Why change the rules mid-process?” one polling station executive asked. “We need clarity, not confusion.”
Candidature in Limbo
As of press time, the Vetting Committee has not issued a specific ruling on whether Faisal Ibrahim Cisse will be cleared to contest or disqualified for non-appearance.
That silence has left the Chairman race in uncertainty, with delegates and party members waiting for a definitive statement on eligibility. The stakes are high in Klottey Korle, a key swing constituency where party unity and strong leadership will be critical ahead of future elections.
What’s Next?
Party watchers say the situation puts the national leadership in a tight corner. A decision to bar Cisse could be seen as exclusionary, while making an exception could be interpreted as undermining the General Secretary’s directive.
For now, Lawyer Faisal Ibrahim says he is waiting to return to Ghana next week and hopes the Committee will provide a clear path for him to be vetted.
Until then, the Chairman aspirant’s fate, and the mood in Klottey Korle NPP, remains on standby.
