Akuapem Tech Summit 2026 Pushes Silicon Ridge Vision After Engagement with Ashesi University

Akuapem Tech Summit 2026 organisers have advanced plans to develop a “Silicon Ridge” innovation corridor following high-level engagement with Ashesi University aimed at strengthening academic–industry collaboration.
The discussions form part of preparations for the inaugural Akuapem Tech Summit 2026, scheduled for October 1, 2026, at the Peduase Valley Resort in Ghana’s Eastern Region.
The engagement focused on positioning the Akuapem Ridge as a future technology hub anchored on partnerships between academia, government, and the private sector to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation.
Founder of Ashesi University, Patrick Awuah, outlined a long-term vision of developing a Silicon Valley-inspired ecosystem in the area, describing it as a “Silicon Valley idea on the ridge.”
He noted that the region already possesses key foundations necessary for such transformation, particularly in human capital development, infrastructure, and connectivity.
He further stressed the importance of enabling infrastructure, including strong fibre-optic networks and reliable road systems, as critical drivers of digital and industrial growth.
Mr. Awuah also pointed to the broader economic impact of a technology corridor, noting that the establishment of tech companies along the ridge would stimulate demand for housing, retail, hospitality, and related services.
He referenced ongoing institutional investments at Ashesi University, including its operational STEM building and the upcoming Ashesi Leadership Centre, as key pillars supporting innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurship development.
As part of future collaboration, Mr. Awuah expressed his willingness to support the Akuapem Technology Secretariat in an advisory capacity, adding that quarterly and virtual engagements could serve as practical mechanisms for sustained collaboration between stakeholders.
The Akuapem Technology Secretariat expressed appreciation for his engagement, describing the discussions as a significant milestone in advancing the Silicon Ridge vision.
The Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to building a mutually beneficial partnership with Ashesi University to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital inclusion across the Akuapem area.
The Akuapem Tech Summit 2026 is inspired by the vision of the Okuapehene, His Majesty Oseadeɛyo Nana Kwasi Akuffo III, and seeks to promote innovation, youth empowerment, digital inclusion, and sustainable regional development.
The summit is expected to convene policymakers, industry leaders, investors, academics, and diaspora stakeholders, with about 1,000 in-person participants alongside a global virtual audience.
