ATU celebrates international student’s week to deepen ties within the University community

Accra Technical University (ATU) has held it’s maiden flag – raising ceremony and the official opening of international studies week, dubbed, ‘’Time With The Vice – Chancellor’’.

The event is aimed at celebrating unity in diversity, friendship among international students and to appreciate their respective academic contributions towards the growth and development of the University.

In attendance were representatives from the diplomatic community, management and staff of ATU, students, member of the International Students Association among others.

Speaking under the theme,’ Raising Flags, Building Bridges: Promoting International Understanding and Cultural Exchange, the Sierra Leone High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Mohamed Kai Samba urged students to strive for excellence, demonstrate integrity and be good ambassadors of their respective countries.

He said the raising of the flags tells a unique story of friendship among nations and cooperations among students, adding that the ceremony enhances the University’s reputations as an academic institution that embraces students across Africa and the global world.

“When students cross borders in their fields of education, they become bridges between nations as they carry along their cultures with them, share experiences with others and return home with new knowledge and understanding that forster relationships that last a lifetime

The Diplomat however commended ATU for instituting the initiative and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the institution for the warm hospitality extended to all international students,

In an address, the Vice – Chancellor of ATU, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi said the ceremony represent cultures, histories and the rich diversity that international students exhibit on campus, adding that the University is proud to host students from various African countries and beyond.
International students, he said have become an integral part of the academic community which is enriching teaching and learning with diverse perspectives as well as strengthening a multicultural environment that prepares students to thrive in a globalized world.

The Vice – Chancellor thanked representatives from the various African countries for gracing the occasion saying the gesture demonstrate the academic bonds that exists between Ghana and the other countries which have impacted on education, innovation, research and human development.

For her part, the Director of Public Affairs, Madam Fausta Kilian Ganaa said the initiative will enhance cultural diversity, strengthen partnership and cooperation that unite global University community.
