Free Speech is guaranteed but be responsible – Sam George
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has urged Ghanaians to exercise caution and responsibility in their public remarks. He emphasized the need for citizens to balance their right to free speech with responsible communication.
The minister stated that while the government is committed to protecting the constitutional rights of all citizens, including freedom of expression, it is equally important for individuals to be mindful of how their words can impact national unity, peace, and development.
During a press conference organized by the Minority Caucus, where he made a brief and friendly appearance on June 9, Sam George noted that freedom of speech is a fundamental aspect of Ghana’s democracy. He assured Ghanaians that the government does not intend to undermine this right.
However, he stressed that citizens must also recognize the responsibility that comes with exercising these freedoms.
“We have a country to protect, and we must build it together. Free speech will be upheld under this government and every other government, but we should also be responsible in our expressions, and that is all we are asking for. “We have one country and one people, so be assured that your freedom of speech is guaranteed.”
