Bail conditions in alleged misappropriation cases are too harsh – NPP man, Kingsley Kyeretwie Bonsu

Kingsley Kyeretwie Bonsu, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticised what he describes as excessively harsh bail conditions imposed on individuals accused of misappropriation of funds in Ghana.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Bonsu argued that some of the bail terms set by the courts place an unfair burden on accused persons before they are proven guilty.
According to him, while accountability and the fight against corruption remain important, the justice system must also ensure fairness and uphold the constitutional principle that every accused person is innocent until proven otherwise.
He noted that in several alleged financial crime cases, courts often impose high bail sums and strict surety requirements that many ordinary Ghanaians struggle to meet.
Bonsu called for a review of bail conditions in such cases, stressing that the legal process should not appear punitive at the early stages of prosecution.
