National Investment Bank, Stakeholders in the health sector initiate steps to address non – communical diseases at workplace

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KorleBu Teaching Hospital, Dr.Yakubu Seidu Adams has called for effective collaborations among stakeholders in the health sector to roll out their research findings to help address lifestyle changes which is having negative health effect among the youth across the country.

He said the research findings will be carefully reviewed to enable players in the health space to identify gaps, weakness and measures to keep in place to address diseases at the work place.

Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adams made the call during the CREATE Dissemination programme on Non – Commercial Diseases (NCDs) in Accra which brought together representatives in the health sector, research institutions, academia, policy makers among others to discuss and delibrate on issues and methods to curb the growing concerns of non – communicable diseases in Africa.

‘’CREATE, a body that engages in the reduction of non – communicable diseases in Ghana, Kenya and Mozambique have supported 261 participants in the three countries through outreach programmes and have further trained 10 researchers from the respective countries’’, said Prof. Henritta
O’ Connor , Provost and Deputy Vice – Chancellor of University of Leicester.

She said the programme seeks too institute sustainable care models as well as scale up local research capacity between African researchers in partnerships with UK institutions and forms part of the effort to promote cordial research findings.

Prof. Alfred Yawson, Provost of the College of Science , University of Ghana, called for full community engagement in the CREATE programmes as part of the effort to intensity awareness on diseases through community local radio stations and public address systems in the rural areas.

For his part, the Managing Director of National Investment Bank, Chief. Dr. Doli – Wura Seidu Zakaria said human health plays a significant role in the socio – economic development of the country hence the bank will continue to invest in health and research to advance the health needs of the work force of institutions across the country.
