Binduri Military Convoy Attack Was “Test” by Militants; Calls for Tougher Punishment to Deter Escalation
Story: Maurice Otoo

Security Expert Richard Kumadoe says the recent attack on a military convoy at Binduri exposed lapses in public safety protocols and may have been a calculated probe by armed groups.
Discussing the incident on Kessben TV’s Digest show, hi noted, this is public safety procedural failure, I guess they intended this action to test the response of the military so they can turn the place to a captured militant zone.
He commended the swift action taken and added, I am happy for the swift response of the military in arresting most of the suspects.
Kumadoe reiterated his belief that investigations are underway to probe into who they really are, where they got the ammunitions and their nationalities.
The security expert alleged that, the militant receive their ammunitions from those who benefit from these conflicts, he alleged.
According to Kumadoe, the attackers blur the line between civilians and combatants. _“These people are civilians who are dressed like militant so we need to deploy the military to deal with them squarely,”_ he said.
He flagged Bawku as a critical security zone. _“Bawku is a hot point regarding all the Northern regions so there has been special security management at the place,”_ Kumadoe explained.
We have an issue in Nkwanta, Gushegu but until the recent issue Bawku was calm, he added.
Kumadoe linked rising violence to weak enforcement and argued that, non-punishable of offence leads to escalation of subsequent occurrence in a more fatal incidence, he said.
People must be punished for grievous offences they commit to discourage other prospective offenders.
The Ghana Armed Forces and Ministry of National Security are yet to release an official statement on the Binduri attack or the status of suspects arrested.
