Anita De-Souso Warns of Nationwide Demonstration Over Treatment of NDC Grassroots

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anita De-Soso, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with how some party faithful are being treated following recent appointments, warning that she could lead a nationwide demonstration if concerns raised by grassroots members are not addressed.

According to her, many dedicated party supporters who worked tirelessly during the election campaign without receiving financial rewards are feeling neglected and sidelined.

Speaking on the issue at Kessben Maakye, De-Soso said numerous party supporters have been visiting her home to complain about the lack of recognition for their hard work.

“Considering how we have suffered for party work without taking a penny from anyone during the campaign, we must be given preferential treatment. We should complement one another,” she stated.

De-Soso emphasized her long-standing contribution to the party, noting that she has served in several key leadership roles including National Women’s Organizer, National Vice Chairperson, and Deputy Propaganda Secretary.

“No one can downplay my value in the party,” she stressed.

She added that it is important for the party to prioritize loyal members before bringing in outsiders, saying, “It is prudent to feed your children before considering outsiders.”

Although she disclosed that she has been appointed to the National Population Council, De-Soso said she currently feels sidelined and treated like an outsider.

She also alleged that some individuals responsible for appointments may have accepted money from others seeking positions.

“I have heard that those responsible for appointments have taken monies from others. If they dare me, I will mention their names,” she warned.

Despite her concerns, De-Souso clarified that she does not blame the President, John Dramani Mahama, whom she described as a good man.

“I know JDM is a good man, so I plead that he assembles all ministers and enquire what exactly is happening with the grassroots,” she said, adding that the President may not have direct control over all appointments.

She further warned that if the situation is not addressed, it could negatively affect the future of the party.

“If the party collapses after JDMs tenure, people will lambast him and rthat is what I want to prevent,” she said.

De-Soso also called for the removal of what she described as the “infusion” of members from the rival New Patriotic Party (NPP) into government appointments.

Reflecting on her history within the party, she recalled playing key roles during past internal crises, including intervening to promote reconciliation between the late President John Evans Atta Mills and the party’s founder Jerry John Rawlings.

She said her current concerns are driven by a desire to protect the party and ensure that loyal members are not overlooked.
